Consider the needs of the fashion industry – Trade Minister urged
Mr Justice Patamia, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Blackhand Impressions Ltd, an Accra based Advertising Agency, has appealed to Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, Minister- designate for Trade and Industry, to prioritise the concerns of the fashion industry.
He said the Ministry must invest into making the industry viable as it is an avenue for job opportunities and could contribute in the fight against youth unemployment.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Patamia said the Ghanaian youth have the passion to pursue ventures in fashion but lack financial support and this has militated against their efforts to succeed in the industry.
“Fashion is a great business venture, but the least funded sector in Ghana”, he said.
He expressed unhappiness with the lack of attention from government and said: “successive governments have given little attention to the fashion industry in spite of its potential advantage to the economy.”
Mr Justice Patamia called on government to support any policy that would be championed by the Ministry to accelerate the growth of the industry.
He said the Blackhand Impressions Ltd would hold a Fashion Exhibition Show dubbed, “Beach Exhibition and Fashion Show 2017” early next month.
The event slated to take place at the Titanic Beach in Accra on the February 11, 2017 would attract various people including fashion designers, models and dealers in fashion sales to exhibit their talents and items for patronage.
“Lovers of fashion should take advantage of this opportunity to gain enough exposure”, Mr Patamia said.
